Lots of Codling but not a Ling in sight today on the Tyne wrecks

Huge thanks to the great anglers who came aboard for the run out yesterday. We made the most of a break in the weather and headed out into the sunrise to flat seas, for what may well be one of, if not, the last wrecking session of the season.

The first stop off for mackerel proved unsuccessful, with absolutely nothing coming aboard whatsoever. We had to steam almost 9 miles before finding a shoal. The substantial proportion of mackerel were very small, with possibly a dozen large mackerel taken in total throughout the entire day.

We tried a good number of wrecks, and whilst it was steady, it was hard going. Amelia took the biggest fish of the day at 3.3 lb on the digital scales. Slippy did his thing and had a good number of fish on light gear and lures, including a nice little pollack. A good number of the wrecks had become snarled up with lost trawl nets during the recent storms, unfortunately rendering them pretty much unfishable.

We had a midway chill out for coffee and lunch, and headed inside to see what the rough grounds would produce.

On the first drift inside, perfect pan sized codling up to 2.5lb were coming aboard sometimes three or four at a time all around the boat. A good number of species including wrasse, whiting, coalies, and some enormous pouting also made a regular appearance so there was plenty of sport.

Let's not forget, the main objective today was to find Amelia a Ling...not a single Ling came aboard today...thankfully she took it in good spirit, but there's always next time...that's fishing
